chapter 208

For the readers that caught the reference to Sylvia Porter in chapter 207 I was paying Homage to the great story teller Carniegirl.

Sunday was quiet. We finally got to do all the things we had planned for Saturday. Jenny did not seem worried about the subpoena so I did not dwell on it.

An exercise routine was developed for Jenny with diminishing exercises as her stomach grew. We researched every fitness source we could find for pregnant women until we were satisfied and she was satisfied with the program.

Sunday afternoon we went shopping with her for new clothes that would hopefully cover any baby bulge for a couple of months. With July and August being the hottest months it was going to be a challenge – especially late August and September.

With Jenny already being at 10 weeks and carrying twins, I figured that before September we would be announcing the event to family and friends. I had no idea how fast one would start showing with twins.

Patti was back from the second part of her lighthouse viewing vacation; after supper we spent several hours being brought up to date with photos and stories about the things she and Kate had done on this trip.

It took nearly as long to fill her in on things that had happened here. I was glad she was back. I needed to stay to be part of whatever happened at the courthouse tomorrow morning. Patti could do the time entries and I could remotely approve them with my smarter than smart phone.

The bombardier had left for Warrington at six to pick up the full workforce that was going to work for JBG Security at the college. A full four days of training was on tap for them.

Ching Lee, Kathryn and Ty were handling the defensive training, Jamie the weapons training Mark and Cindy were handling the time and computer training as well as uniforms and record keeping. Roseanne and Jason were handling the HR part of the training.

Marcy, Jenny, Jason and I were at the courthouse at 8 to meet with our corporate lawyers before the 8:30 AM court opening. Marcy had run a printout of all payments to the Airport Authority just in case we needed to buy time.

Our lawyers were going straight to a judge to seek dismissal of the subpoena for over-reaching and a variety of legal mumbo jumbo I did not understand.

I was surprised to see several TV news crews there with all the dressings. Marley Kendall’s crew was there and I asked her what was going on.

“I don’t know exactly but the county called and said there was big news going to be released this morning about the Airport funding at 9:30 this morning,” she said.

Marley tried to pump me for information, “We are here meeting with our lawyers and to get an appearance in front of a judge about a subpoena delivered Saturday,” I replied.

The court clerk scheduled how the cases went before judge. Our corporate legal team Howard, Howard and Fine and with Jason and Jenny’s appearance, arranged for a motion to be the first case heard by the judge this morning.

While we were waiting, Eric Roberson and another Fed from the justice department who I had never seen joined us. “The county is trying to muddy the field by interfering with evidence and threatening county employees. In some cases, to get them to avoid testifying before the federal grand jury they are sending them away for training and feeding them false information to report,” he said.

“The county prosecutor wants to run for office next election. Starting a campaign committee on Friday gave away his scam,” he added.

The clerk called us in, sitting the lawyers up front and my group in the second row. The honorable J. J. Abrams was on the other side.

Our lead lawyer Curtis Howard presented the case for having the subpoena suppressed with a list of reasons. Mr. Abrams was objecting the entire time that he needed the information to determine who was involved in the funding debacle.

Mr. Howard: “JBG was not in business in 2001when the fraud started.”

Mr. Abrams: “The cause of the subpoena is to the fact we were circumventing county policy by having a fuel truck on site and denying the county revenue and part of his investigation was to recover that revenue for the county.”

Mr. Howard: “Previous operators had supplied their own fuel and that there was no language in our lease that prevented us from doing the same and that the county was the party responsible for no fuel at the airport in the first place by poor management.”

Mr. Abrams: “All the other businesses at the airport have complied with his information request and that our stone walling was evidence of illegal activities on our part.”

Mr. Howard: “JBG aviation division is a National Aviation Service with national and international as well as State and Federal customers and contracts. It is great importance that customer lists, passenger lists, and destinations remain confidential. There is no prudent reason for disclosing this information to the county.”

This back and forth crap went on for over an hour. The person from the Justice Department stood and identified himself and asked to approach the bench. He gave the judge a thick envelope. After reading the papers the Judge declared the subpoena void.

The Judge then read the prosecutor a cease and desist order on any actions on the JBG fuel truck until a hearing could be scheduled in Federal Court at the request of Homeland Security. That hearing would be on hold until resolution of the federal investigation into the county and Island Airport was completed.

Jason looked at me and said, “End of round one, a draw – there will be more to come.”

We finished the day out at the gym with the start of the training with the Warrington group. It was good to see Dan and Ellie Mayes again and good to work out with so many former soldiers. Fifteen of the group of twenty was former military just out of the service and out of work, looking for a job.

The shrinks interviewed all of them in the first very long day. Doctors Rich, Moore – and the newest doctor in their practice – Dr. Mable Harrison gave all of them positive marks. They were good to work for us in a security setting. There was no sign of any post battlefield mental issues.

The drug tests came back clear by the time to send them out for supper. The rest was up to Jamie, Ching Lee, Ty, Kathryn, Cindy, Mark and Jason and they had 4 days. The caravan with the North Girls, the equipment truck and all the cars were leaving Friday morning.

The bombardier was scheduled to leave Easton with everything and everyone else at 3 on Friday.

Chapter 207

Saturday was intended to be a slow day – we were going to spend it in the gym working out and putting together an exercise routine for Jenny based on the pamphlets from the doctor. Even though it was nearly one before Marcy and I finished our lover’s conversation, I was up making breakfast at six for my mates; it was a weekend ritual that I enjoyed. During the week the girls liked to eat fruit and bagels from the refreshment center in the gym.

We had just finished putting the dishes in the dishwasher when my phone rang. Blocked call, I wondered who would be calling me that would have that.

“Hello, BJ here,” I replied.

“BJ, Frank Love CIA. Do you remember me?” he asked.

“Sure do, you, Eric and Marty were in my office and we were rudely interrupted,” I replied.

“Yes, that is correct. Would your flight division be interested in handling emergency flights for the agency and DHS? The pay for those flights is at a premium rate but they are with short notice. Eric sent us your pilot list. You have several that we would prefer to be the pilot of such flights,” he said.

“As long as we don’t have to mount gun turret’s and bomb hooks to the wings, I don’t think Lorrie would have any objection as long as the pilots you want are available,” I replied.

I was looking across the table at Lorrie whose eyes kept getting bigger and bigger.

“The pilots we want on our flights are Jack Rush, Charlie Campbell, Ernie Smyth, Sylvia Porter, Gene West, Kathy Hoss and Norman Pyle. They have past military or great checks. They were the best candidates on the quick check. I am sure the others will check out – it just will take a little longer,” he said.

We need a G5 LR flight today with a return trip tomorrow, if you can do it,” he said.

I slid the pad I had been writing on across to Lorrie, who began to dial the pilots on the list.

“Lorrie is making calls from your list as we speak,” I replied. “May I have a number to call you back?” I asked.

“202 555 1901- that is my cell, keep it close to your heart,” he replied.

Lorrie slid the pad back to me. “Campbell and West can will fly it – what time and where?” I replied.

“Have the plane at Andrews at 0900. Call sign to ID the plane for the tower is: Charlie, Echo, Echo, Niner, Niner, Zero, Three, Tango, Tango and the transponder ID is Eight, Seven, Seven, Two. Have the pilots call the tower on frequency 139.01.”

“The crew leader will have the destination package when they board the plane. Make sure they have their passports with them,” he instructed.

“That call sign is for your business and only the transponder number will change with the flights. Save both for the invoice description,” he instructed as he hung up.

“Marcy, go to the bank and get 50 thousand in cash now, take someone with you and both of you carry side arms,” I said. “I don’t know where they are going; it may be somewhere that will not take the fuel card. Lorrie, call the pilots back and make sure they have their passports with them,” I said.

“I have that much and more in the safe for emergencies,” Marcy said.

“Good planning,” I said.

Campbell and West stopped by the office to pick up the Andrews information and the cash with an explanation.

We spent most of the day over to the gym working out together and in smaller groups. We were still over there when the men’s groups started to come in for the evening session.

Ty, Herman and Kathryn came in with several more spooks. They did not need to say anything – I could tell by looking who they were. Ty gave them a tour of the gym and then they paid for memberships at the front desk.

Ching Lee and I were on the mats in full padding, working out with the sticks. Either Ching Lee was doing a lot of practicing when I was not at the gym or I was getting lazy and soft. She came damn near putting my ass down twice. I knew enough moves to prevent it but it was a wake-up call.

Ty and his guest stood and watched our practice play out before they came over and started a conversation. Ty introduced his guest as Rodney Stokes.

“Is that something you do for fun, or just to stay fit?” Rodney asked.

“I did it in the sandbox to stay fit and improve my skills. It saved my ass a few times. Then I started teaching it to my group over there,” I replied.

“Now I train with my friends and for the exercise,” I replied.

“Would you be willing to train a group of 20 a couple nights a week? You have added some things that might come in handy in a few weeks if everything comes together. I can’t say any more,” he said then he added, “There would be compensation.”

“Tuesday and Thursday nights would work out,” I replied. If my training could help save lives on a mission I was all in. I knew Ching Lee would be more than willing to help. She would get her kicks off pounding on someone bigger than her every time.

Ching Lee and I talked with Ty and Rodney for a few minutes while we took a break. I found out he was army before he went to work as special ops for the agency. I also found out he was in the sandbox less than 200 miles from where I had been stationed.

He had fought in some bad areas and bad battles. I was sure that there were some interesting stories that we could share. He had left the service six months before I did.

I asked what they specifically wanted me to work on with his group.

“They have been out of the action for a few months – remind them how to be the one to walk away from hand to hand,” he replied. I nodded my reply.

Just when I thought Saturday could not get any more befuddled, I found out that it was not over yet.

Katrina, who was working the lobby window today, came walking across the gym with a sheriff’s deputy behind her. “This officer asked for you,” she said.

“I’m Deputy Hamilton – you have been served,” he said as he handed me a subpoena and then walked away.

Queens County Circuit Court

Office of Special Investigator The honorable J. J. Abrams

The court orders you to present the following documents at 9 AM Monday to the investigator in charge.

The originals of all contracts with the Island Airport including all correspondence these shall include all letters, all e-mails, and phone ledgers and logs that cover all leases, rentals and agreements.

All flight records including landings, departures, destinations and passenger lists. JBG shall supply an employee list including pilots, mechanics, grounds and office persons since the implementation of any and all contracts with the Island Airport authority.

JBG shall supply all fuel logs for fuel purchased from the airport fuel farm.

JBG shall included copies of all payments for all leases, fuel, utilities, landing and takeoff fees to the County Airport Authority.

JBG shall supply all environmental disposal contracts, copies of all payments to the contractors and shipping manifest for disposed of materials including hazard class and final waste destination, including routing.

JBG shall supply copies of bank statements indicating all revenues generated at the Island Airport for the period of the Airport leases.

JBG shall supply copies of all non airport fuel purchases dispensed at the Island airport by the fuel truck owned by JBG.

JGB shall supply original insurance policies covering all operations, employee and equipment located at Island Airport.

The second letter delivered by the deputy was from the Airport Authority had the following one paragraph statement.

JBG shall remove the jet fuel truck from Island Airport property immediately or the truck will be towed and impounded. JGB shall abide by its verbal agreement to purchase fuel from the Island Airport Authority.

Jenny and Marcy met me in my office. While they were reading the letters I captured a still of the deputy with a time stamp. Marcy faxed the letters to our corporate attorneys and then we called the on-duty lawyer.

Jenny said, “The subpoena is a witch hunt designed to be nothing more than harassment and they are trying to redirect some of the media attention to JBG.”

Our legal team would be in court to get the subpoena squashed Monday morning. To request a copy of all checks sent to the county to make sure they were deposited into county accounts was one thing, but copies of all of our bank statements was out of line. Along with employee list, passenger logs, it was ludicrous. The environmental section was insane; that is why you hired contractors to deal with it.

He was also going to get a hearing over the fuel truck and said that if they touched our fuel truck we would sue them in state court.

I called Eric Roberson and Marty Coeburn, then scanned the documents and attached them to an email to them. They both wanted to be informed if JGB had any problems with the county. Eric was livid by the subpoena terms, especially the demand for original documents.

The shit was going to hit the fan in more than one way on Monday.

Chapter 206

Jenny was in the living room looking through all the information that the doctor had given her, and there was a lot of it. I was carrying it in a shoe box until we had figured out how and when to tell the folks. Ching Lee and Vicky were in there with her, looking over the literature like excited kids reading the instructions for a new toy. This was going to be a learning experience for all of us. There would be so many changes to our lives.

I had the grill out on the garage pad with six humongous steaks cooking on it. Lorrie and Marcy were in the kitchen, helping me with supper. They were putting the finishing touches on salad with all the bells and whistles. Marcy had slid one of those Sarah James premade sweet apple pies in the oven and was digging through the freezer for ice cream to make it a-la-mode. There is nothing like hot apple pie with ice cream melting on top for desert.

The supper was wonderful. There was plenty of food – even Jenny pushed herself away from the table. “I’m full; no more,” she said as she finished the last spoonful of apple pie. As she rubbed her tummy, she said “I think they are, too.”

We had an hour and a half before the guests for the orgy arrived. We used the time to talk about how we were going to tell the folks about the twins on the way. There were plenty of interesting suggestions. But we were still going to wait until we could put it off no more; the deciding factor would be how soon and how much Jenny started showing.

The orgy tonight was scheduled late so supper would have time to digest. Mischief, Mayhem and the two boyfriends were the first to show up. We went to the basement with them to give it a quick clean up before everyone arrived.

The North six were the next ones to arrive. Even Janice with the broken fingers was there, I asked if she was sure she wanted to participate. “I have been waiting for three weeks – a couple of bad fingers are not going to stop me,” she replied.

Jenna and her two secretaries were the last to make it. We had a routine that everyone did before any play for the first time and that was to hit the shower. Everyone partnered with someone in the shower to speed things along. If there was any stubble to be taken care of, they did it at one of the double sinks so as not to tie the showers up.

I saw all of the North six talking with Roseanne and Courtney after the showers. I wondered what was going on and it didn’t take long to find out.

They had talked Roseanne and Courtney into letting them practice their deep throat on Rodney and Brad. I wondered what the payoff for Roseanne and Courtney was but soon found out.

Sly, Janice and Becky led Roseanne over, got her positioned on the sex chair and started on various parts of her body, getting her all hot, bothered and very wet. Lisa, Erica and Glenda practiced on Dennis until he was in the throes of cuming, then the six moved out of the way so he could pound his cum deep into Roseanne, who had cum several times by then and needed a deep pounding with a hard cock to finish round one.

The process was repeated with Brad and Courtney with Sly, Janice and Becky working on Brad. The end result was the same. The North six raided the toy box and then found a spot on the mats to enjoy each other.

I wiped down the sex chair with a damp towel, then a dry one and led Jenny to lie on it before I raised it high. I had placed a bottle of her favorite body lotion in one of the toy heaters earlier. I gave Jenny a complete rub down and massage with the hot oil.

Of course I had to make it an erotic massage with nibbles here and kiss there on all of the important spots she had. When I finished the massage I still had not allowed her to orgasm. The denial taking that long had her begging to cum.

Marcy, Lorrie, Ching Lee and Vicky joined in to take Jenny over the top for a beautiful strong orgasm; we each took a spot of her body and made love to her.

I did the same for each of my mates, with all of them joining in for the orgasm. After that, we watched Roseanne, Courtney, Dennis and Brad show us all the new things they had learned since they had been able to join in on one of our Friday night orgies.

I was surprised when they put Dennis and Brad on their sides on the mat reversed, sucking each other’s cocks, and Roseanne and Courtney each used a medium strap-on on their boyfriends at the same time. There was a lot of grunting and groaning getting started and in rhythm. The chorus at the end indicated everyone was happy.

That was the end for them – when a prostrate gets that kind of treatment, the cock at the end of it is finished for at least a day. There was something about it being completely emptied that way that makes it take a while to recharge. Most likely an old mans tale, I always thought. Either way they just watched the rest of the play for the night.

We girls paired and tripled up to finish out the night with whatever our mood needed. Ching Lee wanted a session on the cross with the floggers and whip. Vicky wanted to be doubled teamed with the large strap-on. Lorrie liked the strap-on and a small vibe in her butt. Marcy liked oral – long and slow.

I made sure that none of my mates went to bed disappointed on orgy night, just tired and all smiles. Satisfying them meant as much to me as my own physical satisfaction.

Friday night was an open sleep night and I slept with whichever mate wanted me. Tonight Marcy wanted me to sleep with her. Ching Lee, her normal bedmate, would sleep with Jenny.

After all the toys were soaking in a chlorine solution and we had all showered again, we called it a night. Marcy snuggled tight and we whispered softly. We talked about Jenny’s babies and what her true thoughts were on the subject.

Marcy wanted all of us to take a vacation together at one of the Florida houses before the babies were born in January. I thought that was a good idea.

Chapter 205

Friday morning I went to my office in the gym and worked with Cindy and Mark. The first round of interviews for the next two colleges had been scheduled. Johnson Tri-county and Tennessee Community were on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. The big jet was bringing all the Warrington employees up here on Monday for training. The ladies in the group were staying at the Horsey house and all the men were staying at the Holiday East by the Narrows.

I had been worried that the big jet was a mistake but again I was about to be proved wrong by my mates. Both of the jets had each made several paying flights.

The big machine companies in the industrial park at Easton where we had to keep them suddenly found they could fly complete groups of engineers and design people in from their Midwest divisions for special projects.

As with the first jets we bought our pilots were the best salesmen, getting flights set up for the big jets. They all knew companies that might be interested and also who to get in touch with. Marcy added another administrator for Lorrie’s division. It had become a full job for one person just to price charter flights.

We finally were getting enough replacement rental cars into the system that there were extras sitting around. There were 10 parked in the parking garage to use for general transportation when we needed them.

The Warrington group was going to spend four days on intense physical training, mixed in with Jamie’s weapons course. They would drive the Warrington cars back Friday morning, along with the North six, in the five remaining unmarked cars.

Mark was driving the box truck loaded with the office equipment. Jenny, Vicky, Ching Lee and i were flying down in the King Air to get the office up and rolling along with patrol routes.

At nine Jenny and I left to go to the doctor. I carried the packet of information that the clinic had sent with the big canister. As usual an appointment was in name only; we waited in her waiting room an hour. It took Jenny half an hour to fill out the patient information, and then we were finally taken to a patient examination room.

Jenny went to pee in the bottle. Then the rest of the list was blood pressure, temperature, height and weight and more questions. Again we were waiting for the doctor. Jenny chose Dr. Susan Peterson because several of her friends that went through prenatal care and delivery loved her. They raved about her knowledge and patient care and concern about the baby.

Dr. Peterson came in and said to Jenny, “You were correct. You are pregnant. How far along do you think you are?”

I answered for Jenny, “Six for sure and possibly 10.” Then I took out my smart phone and went to the calendar where I kept notes and explained my guess work by dates, and what I saw six weeks ago.

Dr. Peterson remarked, “Ah, so that’s how you made this little miracle happen? It would be nice if I had some medical information on the father.”

“This should tell you everything you need to know,” I said as I handed her the folder.

Jenny and I looked at each other and I moved to where I cold hold her. “Yes, we love each other, we are a couple. I am sterile – I cannot have children. My brother’s wife cannot have children either. Jenny and I both want children and our parents want grandchildren. I can experience pregnancy through Jenny,” I said.

Doctor Peterson thought a moment then smiled and nodded. “Jenny, if you are that far along we may be able see something on an ultrasound.” She listened for a baby heart beat with a special stethoscope. The doctor did not say anything but was making all kinds of expressions with her face. They were the intense ‘deep in thought’ kind of expressions.

While we were waiting for the doctor to set up the ultrasound equipment she asked about Jenny’s general family history, “Are there more female or male offspring, is there a history of twins or triplets?” – Those kinds of questions.

Jenny and I watched the pictures on the screen – all squiggly and gray. Finally Dr. Peterson said, “I though so,” as she pointed to the screen, “here and here. You are going to have twins.”

Jenny said, “No wonder I am so hungry. By the way, I want steak for supper tonight,” before we both broke into laughter. We ended up holding each other crying tears of joy.

I listened to the list of instructions the doctor gave her and I held all of the pamphlets the nurse brought in, then I watched as the nurse drew 6 vials of blood. Dr. Peterson came back in with the follow-up appointments. We asked her several questions about any sexual activity we should avoid. Actually we embarrassed the dickens out of her.

“I never had to answer those for two ladies before. I have to think on that for a moment,” as she turned red.

We went back to the office to share the news with our mates. Jenny and I had barely closed the door to my office. We went in there to have a few minutes to get our heads around the news; twin’s, one for each of us to hold and to love.

Marcy, followed by Vicky, Ching Lee and Lorrie said almost in unison, “OK, spill it – all the details.”

I could tell by the expression on her face that Jenny was going to string them along for a few minutes.

“I peed in the bottle, they took my blood pressure – which is normal – and temperature and that was also normal. Then the nurse took 6 vials of blood for testing. They gave us several pamphlets for nutrition guidelines to control my weight so I don’t gain too much weight and to properly feed my baby.

The doctor said I could still have all the sex I wanted with a few exceptions. They also gave me some on the benefits of breast feeding. That reminds me – I am really horny today,” Jenny said.

“Then they did a sonogram to see the baby. I have it here,” she said.

Jenny pointed to the two circled images and said, “Here are my babies; I’m having twins!”

I thought my eardrums would be shattered from the commotion, the squealing and the excitement. There were faces looking in the glass by the door to see if everything was ok.

Jenny was hugged and kissed and her belly was gently rubbed in good natured fun.

Even though we swore she had a baby bump, we thought we had a couple more months while it could be easily disguised – but twins might change all that. With the first pregnancy it would take longer to show. Jenny was determined not to gain too much weight and had asked the doctor what exercises she could do.

Tonight was orgy night and we were determined to pamper and make love to Jenny in so many ways. I left to go get fresh steaks from the market to get things started. That’s what Jenny had said she wanted and she was going to get it.

Chapter 204

I awoke Thursday morning nervous for some reason. After breakfast I called Janice to see how her night was. Then I went to KCC to spend the morning. I was going to be back to the gym at one to prepare for the signing at three.

Kelly and Courtney had carried them to a thank you breakfast. They were in the process of loading the cars to come home. Captain Peters had stopped by the college. He gave them a sealed package to deliver to me and wished them a safe trip.

I told them to be careful. I loaded the car numbers into my GPS program so that I could follow their homeward progress.

I reviewed the progress reports from the dorm repair. According to Mr. Bozman’s notes, they were on schedule.  There were copies of materials invoices where he had verified delivery amounts.

I had picked up the day’s local papers and after the routine morning things were finished, I had time to look through them.

The Star Reporter had several pages of reports from the commissioners meeting and a page of photographs. There was several of me, Jason, Lorrie and Marcy. In one we were being interviewed by the TV crew. In a couple they had Duke and I talking in the hall and one of me giving him a hug after we had finished.

The Feds were still doing daily press releases. The new information they released could have been stuffed into a thimble but the papers made a big deal out of every word.

The papers were speculating that the commissioners were going to resign. That speculation I doubted. The money had been spent on county projects no matter how trivial. If they resigned they would lose some of the legal defense options they had.

If they had stolen the funds, the county would refuse to supply legal aid to them and they would be on their own. But so far there was no evidence of that.

I left the college at noon and made my way to the gym. I ate lunch with the rest of my mates at the refreshment center and watched Jenny eat for two again. There was no doubt that there was a growing baby bump, but it all could have been either wishful thinking or just imagination.

Ching Lee and Vicky both asked if I noticed it yesterday. One thing for sure was a shopping trip for Jenny to get some less reveling clothes, or should I say some to disguise the issue for as long as possible, was on tap.

With July the 4th coming next week, we would have some time to shop – and with the doctor’s appointment tomorrow – have definite answers.

The Lowes team came in after lunch for the final meeting. After that, we went over to the shopping center for a construction update. Then we were going to set up for the press conference. Their PR department even had a model and photographs of what the finished building would look like.

By 2:45 everything was set up, the models and photograph were on stands, covered with sheets until they were to be reveled.  Several media groups were there, including Marley’s station.

I also saw there were several representatives from various special interest groups on the island. The groups were always against everything.

The County Commercial Business Development team was there. Jason had met with Harry Stills – his friend – and had given him some data to report for his part of the news conference, with the blessing of the Lowes PR team. Jason had made the introductions at the after lunch meeting at the gym.

At 3, Harry Stills opened the news conference. For having little time to put a speech together he had plenty to say. He talked about how the county had the first settlement in Maryland in 1631 and organized into a county in 1706. The first railroad came to the county in 1868, not far from the very spot we were standing on. He went on to talk about the county being the connecting link from the Eastern Shore to Annapolis and Washington DC.

He then linked the history with the present by new growth, new businesses and new opportunities for the county citizens. He said that these changes were the future jobs for our children, also the financing for our schools and roads.

He introduced me as President of Jones Business Groups, the owner of the shopping center, Marcy as Executive Vice president and CFO, Lorrie as Executive Vice President of the Real Estate and Aviation division and then the rest of us and their positions.

Lorrie made a brief speech and introduced Chad Johnson, Vice President of Lowes Centers – the new tenant of the Island Shopping Center.

There was another 10 minutes of speeches, then handshakes, all the media pictures and finally a question and answer session. After the end of the official Q&A session I walked through the crowd speaking to people I knew.

One of the first people I met was Chuck Rustone from Q&T Banking and Trust. He asked, “How do you think this is going to affect the 2 lumber yards in the county?”

“I don’t think this will affect the lumber yards hardly at all. They cater to the contractors that build houses from 7 to 5. Someone wanting a house, an addition or a garage goes to an architect at the lumber yard to draw it up and they build it or recommend someone that will; that is their customer. Lowes caters to the person that works 8 or 10 hours and wants to do repairs or small jobs, landscaping and such  after work or on the weekend themselves, to save money,” I said.

“When you bought this the bank thought you had made a bad decision. That you would never be able to do anything with it, the word out here is that you have a very long term contract with good terms. So you made a good decision and made some financial advisors look out of step with the community,” Chuck said.

“If we could not rent it we were going to turn it into our depot for receiving new and disposing of old lease cars, and more office space. We are on track to add a thousand this year. I doubt that the lot would have been big enough to handle it all. Now we are back to looking for a disposal site again,” I said.

I saw Chuck looking over my shoulder intently looking at someone then he said, “I think these ladies are looking for you,” as the North six came up beside us.

Janice was holding her arms crossed on her chest with the broken fingers on top. I knew that they hurt less in that position.

Just to be polite I did a quick introduction to Chuck then I asked, “How was the trip back and how are the broken fingers doing?”

“The trip was fine, the fingers are still letting me know they are not happy with me,” Janice said.

Chuck being polite asked, “How did you break your fingers?”

Janice was one never to tread lightly and could hold a stone face, “I broke them defending myself from a man that tried to attack me.”

“I hope you gave him more than broken fingers,” Chuck replied.

“Oh yes I did, he is dead,” Janice replied to a startled Chuck.

“Let’s go over to the office and debrief,” I said. We met Lorrie and Marcy then went over to the office. After debriefing I sent them home in the unmarked cars.

Chapter 203

Even though we had very little sleep last night, I went to work on time. I was thankful it was a slow day. Jenny had left for Annapolis at the same time I left for C-town.

Marcy was going to call an office-wide meeting to fill everyone in on the events that happened at Rochester last night. We thought that everyone should hear it from one of us.

I called and talked to Janice after lunch; it was a long talk. We covered a lot of topics. I really wanted to know how she was handling the day after. Did we need to get counseling for her on Friday? Killing someone affects everyone differently. She had done it while defending herself and her friends, as well as her coworkers.

I asked, “How are you feeling, and how did you sleep?”

“My hand is sore. I had to take the pain meds last night and again today. I was exhausted after the fight; I think because of the adrenalin rush. After the pain meds, I slept very well,” she replied.

“How have your friends and fellow workers reacted?” I asked.

“Kelly held the night shift over and played the video of the fight for them, and then the day shift this morning in a joint meeting. They could not believe that we beat those three guys and that I had killed one of them. They think it was impressive,” she said.

“Sly and Becky walked the route earlier and a police car stopped on the side of the highway. The two policemen walked over to them and wanted to know if they were the two that were in the fight last night. They wanted to invite us to the cop’s bar hangout for a free drink for a job well done,” Janice said. “The captain brought back the handcuffs we put on those guys last night and the TV station was out at the entrance doing some kind of report before lunch.”

“Just be extra careful; you only have one more day there,” I replied.

I sent a text to the girls in the gym that Janice was up, feeling well and working the desk if anyone wanted to call and give her words of support.

Tonight was going to be busy. I had never been to a county commissioners meeting. Marcy and Lorrie had been to them several times with Jason.

I felt I had no choice but to go – after all the issues with the airport and the accident that had moved me into the spotlight – and I needed to support Lorrie. I was expecting that our fuel truck move was going to be too much for the commissioners to swallow.

We arrived an hour early. I thought the place would be standing room only and I did not want to stand for two hours.

There were plenty of news crews there. Marley with her channel 23 crew was there along with channel 14, 29 and 46 news crews. They were all at the entrance killing time, making filler video.

As soon as we were near her she and her crew ran to us. The other crews were following behind her. She asked if we had come to speak to the commissioners. “No, just to observe and to defend our actions if it was necessary and state our case,” I replied.

Then she asked how I was recovering from the accident? “I am fine, just black and blue and still sore in places,” I replied.

Then she said, “My station picked up a news story from Rochester about a JBG security team being attacked last night and one of the assailants were killed. Was it one of your teams from Summer’s Road?”

“Yes, it was one of our teams and the report was correct that one of the assailants was killed, another in serious and the third has been downgraded to critical condition this afternoon,” I replied.

She then asked, “Who were the team members and were any of them injured?”

“There were some minor injuries, the investigation has not completed yet so we are not releasing names at this time,” I replied. Then I asked if she was going to cover the press conference tomorrow at the shopping center site?

Marley countered with, “Are you expecting more fireworks?” “Anything is possible,” I replied.

We walked on before any of the other stations could ask any questions. We took the last seats in the building.

Jason and I went to meet his friend from the commercial business department while the others saved our seats. He was shocked to find out that we had been able to lease the site to a big box store. He also expected some kickback from the anti-big-box anti-growth crowd.

Jason assured him that with the grandfather clause in the zoning, there was nothing they could do. He promised that he would be there representing the county and asked if he could drop a teaser during his report tonight that a major retail agreement was going to be announced at the press conference tomorrow at the site and promised he would release no names.

The commissioners meeting turned into a mini riot so bad that additional deputies were brought in. Many of the county groups were screaming about the airport funding swap, how it was going to affect future budgets and how it was going to affect their little piece of the pie. They were demanding heads roll.

Duke’s doctor must have sedated him. He set quietly and said very little. His response to every question about the airport was, “No comment, the issue is under investigation. All questions about the airport funding need to go the county attorneys.”

The meeting was in its final minutes; they were going through the odds and ends to close it. Duke stood and walked from behind the commissioner’s table, then along the wall past the end of the rows of seated people and behind the last row that we were seated in.

There were two sheriff’s deputies, one on each corner of the rear row. As Duke went past, the deputy fell in behind him as he made his way along the back row towards my group.

Duke touched my shoulder, “May I speak with you privately for a minute?” You could have heard a pin drop, it got so quiet.

I followed Duke a short distance to the hall behind the seats with the two deputies in tow. He stopped and turned to face me.

“I want to apologize for my family for what my son tried to do to you. I don’t know what got into him – sometimes he just seemed to go out into left field with some things. I hope that you are recovering from the injuries. I sorry that it happened,” he said.

“I am sorry for your loss and wish the outcome had been different. I know the loss of a loved one is hard to take and to lose a child is a parent’s worst nightmare. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers,” I said then I gave him an extended hug.

I could hear cameras clicking in the background and wondered what caption would accompany the picture in the paper.

We walked back into the meeting room. He went into a private meeting with the rest of the commissioners and department heads and I to Marcy, Lorrie, and Jason.

We walked to Jason’s Suburban, avoiding the media who were interviewing other attendees of the meeting. One of the reporters shouted my name to get us to stop. I waved and said, “See you tomorrow,” entered the Suburban and drove home.

Chapter 202

Kelly – followed by Erica and Glenda – came in the door. A moment later Courtney and Janice came in. I pointed all of them towards the meeting room with Jenny and me behind them.

The police officer said, “I am going to question them first.”

“You’re going to wait until I get a medical report, then you may get a statement from them with counsel,” I replied.

“Janice, are you OK?” I asked.

“Two broken fingers and some bruises. I am a lot better than he is, I think,” she said.

“Glenda?”   “I have some bruises, a bruise on my leg and the inside of my lip is cut,” she replied.

“Erica, I can see the bruise on the side of your face – anything else?”  “I’m going to have some sore ribs, the vest took the most of it,” she replied.

Marcy knocked on the door, “There is a captain wanting to question these three.”

“Give us a minute, and then send him in,” I replied.

“Jenny and I will be in here with you. Follow Jenny’s advice,” I said.

Captain Peters and the two officers came into the meeting room.

“Hello Captain Peters, it’s good to see you again. I guess rank hath no privileges in Rochester if they have you working this time of the evening,” I said.

“I was off but when they call for six ambulances to come to the College I get notified. I am surprised to see you here,” he replied.

“When one of my people gets hurt, I get notified,” I replied.

“So you three young ladies are security guards?” he asked.

I answered for them. “They are part of the initial setup team. They are going back to Maryland on Thursday, then on to North Carolina on Monday to set up the security office for Warrington Community College,” I said.

“I see, I need to get a statement of what happened. One of the idiots is in critical condition and not expected to make it. Something about a fingernail stuck in his brain through the eye socket, and the other two are in serious condition,” he stated. “Since you were all together, if one wants to be the spokesperson, the other two can add anything you saw or did differently.”

The girls looked at each other. “I will do it,” Janice said.

“Glenda and Erica were working the 3 to 11 shift as patrol and I had worked 7 to 3 in the office. I had gone to the gym to workout after my shift. I stopped back by the office to see if Andy was having any trouble with the systems,” Janice said.

“Glenda and Erica were just leaving the office to do the next patrol that started along Drag Street by the highway. It is always rough there with the highway and all the yelling from the development across the highway,” she said.

“It’s policy that we always walk that area in pairs. I went along with them and when they made the dorm loop I was going to drop off and go get something to eat, with Sly, Becky and Lisa. We had almost made it to turnoff point when there was a commotion behind us,” she continued.

“We all turned around about the same time to see three men running at us. They were almost on us; it was obvious they were going to try to knock us down and when they reached out to grab us, it left no doubt,” she said.

“I took on the biggest one; he was a little ahead of the other two. I guess he thought I would run away. I hit him in the throat first, just about the time he hit the side of my face. It knocked me sideways and he went back. I recovered first; that’s when I went for finger pokes to his eyes. If he can’t see me he can’t hit me,” she said.

“I think that’s when I broke my fingers. I only tried to get one eye but he moved and his nose was between the two fingers that got broken and it tore off my finger nail.” Janice said. “He fell to the sidewalk and did not try to get up.

“I saw Erica go down but bounce back up swinging. Her guy went down and tried to roll towards her to knock her down but she was having none of that. She kicked him somewhere it hurt because he screamed really loud. After the second kick he stopped moving and she put hand cuffs on him. Then she went to help Glenda. Even with my hurting hand I had my guy cuffed,” Janice said.

“My guy was keeping my hands busy so I could not get to my pepper spray. The breeze would have blown it back on us if we had used it so it worked out the best. He hit me pretty hard several times but my vest took most of it. I think it hurt his hands because he soon stopped that kind of attack and started going for my face. It was too late – I had already gotten him in the throat and eyes once. He was trying to cover up to keep me from getting him there again. Erica helped me get him down and cuff him,” Glenda added.

“That sounds like the injuries that the assailants have. I just received a text that one has died. So this investigation is going to be held open for awhile,” Peters said.

“Is the finger poke and the throat punch a standard training technique that you teach?” he asked while looking at me.

“I teach it to all female members in the self defense class. It is an equalizer, no matter how big the opponent is,” I replied.

“Are you ready to look at the camera footage?” Jenny asked.

“You have video?” Peters replied.

“The quality is not really great. We have a copy you can take with you. You may be able to improve it,” Jenny replied.

I clicked play on the video and cleared up the image as best as I could. All of us quietly watched the video until the police and ambulances arrived. That is where Marcy had stopped the recording. I removed the DVD and handed it to Captain Peters.

Peters and the other officers stood, “If we need anything else I will give you a call,” he said as they walked out.

I brought in Marcy, Ching Lee, Vicky and Lorrie to join in on the conversation.

“We have no written policy yet for what happened here today. We knew an incident would happen sooner or later and have started on the policy and procedures; this will speed it along.

You notified all the right people then took care of our people as soon as you could. I like that. I would have preferred to be kept in the loop a little more often but I am sure that you were plenty busy. Courtney and Kelly – Good Job!

“Janice, Erica and Glenda, you did a great job! Training and working together is what kept you alive and allowed you to be sitting at this table, not in the hospital or the morgue.

Resisting the instinct to run and defending each other comes from training, determination and confidence in your abilities. It is not something that can be taught in a lesson plan. It comes one little piece at a time as you acquire and master new skills and say to yourself ‘I can do that now, no problem’,” I said.

“Accounting will create a number for all charges including time starting at 7 tonight for tonight and any time you miss giving statements and follow up doctor’s visits and all charges.”

“Jenny, I think you need to add some things at this point,” I said.

“Do not answer any questions from the press – they are waiting outside for you to give a statement – or the police unless either Courtney or Kelly is with you. That does not mean that you cannot be interviewed but have one of them with you and follow their advice. If they stop you from answering a question it is for the best interest of you and JBG,” Jenny said.

“Janice, I see your fingers are in finger splints and will be very sore for a day or two. You came up with your group as a team and all of you are coming back to Maryland Thursday. Do you want to stay until Thursday and go home as a team or back tonight with us?” I asked.

“I’ll stay they gave me some pain pills for a couple of days. I can still work in the office,” Janice said.

“Good girl; stand with your team – you have made them and us proud tonight,” I said.

Vicky came in with a statement to read to the press for Jenny to approve.

“Let’s go meet the press.” Vicky read the statement, the reporter asked a few questions and then they asked the girls a few questions.

I told Courtney and Kelly “Good Job” one more time before we went back to the plane. I asked them to record the TV stations news program and send a copy to the office. All of us slept on the flight back.

Chapter 201

I was already reaching for my go-bag and the computer case. So were Jenny and the others.

“I am not sure yet; I am just now getting the information.” A police officer interrupted the conversation, “I will call you back in a few minutes.”

“G5 N10255 just landed. The mechanics are fueling it now. Max Grover will wait and fly us,” Lorrie yelled as we ran to two different cars.

Robbie was winding up the fuel hose as we ran towards the plane. He gave me the thumbs up as I waited at the steps for the girls to get on board.

Max followed me and closed the door.

The turbines fired up and as soon as they leveled off and went through the check list, the plane started rolling on the taxiway towards the end of the runway.  At the end of the of the taxiway Max did his run up and checks while talking to the BWI control tower, giving them the flight plan. He had left the cabin speakers on. Max asked the tower if there were any planes in the air below 10000 within 2 miles of the Island airport.

Max made the normal takeoff announcement on the Island frequency and the plane rolled onto the runway as he added some throttle. As soon as the G5 was straight on the runway I could tell by the way the plane lunged – he had added balls to the wall throttle.

From where I was sitting I watched the tachometer for the shaft speed and the exhaust temperature peg the red line and the gear doors close before he started pulling the fuel back. The jet banked to the right and over the bay bridge.

We were banking plenty because I could look out the right side window and see cars on the bridge. I knew we were leaving a trail of black exhaust the way the turbines were screaming.  Max was talking to the controller as the altimeter was climbing past 10000 feet. They were giving him positions of other planes. At 30000 we leveled off and Max pulled the throttles back to maximum cruise speed.

I was getting antsy waiting for Kelly to call back. The girls were on their laptops looking at the various cameras at Rochester. There were plenty of them; East coast had finished the installation. They each took 50 and started by backing the recording back an hour, then fast forwarding the video.

All exterior cameras were numbered clockwise based on a circle with number one at true north. All interior cameras were by building number.

I did a group search by Janice, Glenda and Erica’s ID card number. “Search cameras 70 to 110,” I said. “They were in a group there for a while and started about an hour ago.”

“I got it. Camera 105 at 1900 is when the fight started.” Lorrie said as she connected to the flat screen. “I will back it up to 1845 and play it.

Janice, Erica, and Glenda were doing a foot patrol on the same street that I had killed my attacker on. I had made it policy that all patrols on that street were to be with 2 or more individuals. Once the fence was up we were not going to patrol on the street, only inside the fence.

They were halfway down the street when a car pulled to a stop on the shoulder of the road; three men jumped out and ran at the girls from behind them. They tried to grab the girls and the fight went from there. We watched as the girls defended themselves.

Erica went down twice but still was able to subdue her attacker. The camera was to far away we could only see the large image and not really what the hands and feet were hitting. The girls held their own.

I saw when Janice started using only one hand. Her guy hit the sidewalk about the same time and stayed there. The car sped off leaving his three friends.

Erica and Glenda finished off the third guy. It was tough to see but it looked as if they cuffed the men.

A couple of minutes later they were surrounded by other security people. A few minutes more and police were at the scene. We tried but could not improve the image.

We called ahead to get three rental cars. By the time we finished we were in the landing mode. I had Lorrie copy the half hour of video to a DVD.

It had been three hours since the first call. I called Courtney and asked for an update and where she was.

“We have left the hospital and are on the way back to the college. Kelly, Erica and Glenda have left the Doc’s in the Medical building and are on their way back. The police detectives are waiting to interview the girls in our office. As soon as we get back there we will do a video conference with you before the police interview,” she said.

I simply replied, “Ok.”

We drove to the college and had to stop at the new security gate to identify ourselves. I simply showed my ID to the attendant as he looked into the car and said nothing.

We parked beside several police cars that were running with several occupants still inside.

Inside the office there were two police officers giving Andy Scott – the night duty person – a hard time with unnecessary demands and BS. I could assume the cameras were not being monitored and had not been for a while.

“Vicky would you monitor the exterior cameras, please,”  “Ching Lee would you do the interior cameras?” I asked.

“Lorrie, would you pull up the video of what was going on in this office at the time of the incident?” I asked

“Andy, would you go get me a cup of black coffee, please?” I asked.

“Yes Ma-am,” he responded.

“Wait a minute – I was talking to him. I am not finished,” the officer said.

“Well, you are talking to me now. Let me introduce you to Ms. Jennifer Coles, the Executive Vice President of the legal department. If you have any more questions direct them to her,” I replied.

I looked for the patrol log; I wanted to see that procedure was still being carried out during this emergency. They were up to the current time and patrols.

I put the DVD in the computer drive, linked it to one of the flat screens and waited for Andy to return with my coffee.

As he handed me the cup I asked, “Were you working the desk when the incident happened?”

“Yes Ma-am. They had just left the office to walk that route. I was on the phone with Chester. He was in dorm 14 – the contractor had been working in there the last two days. They had left trash everywhere and the two rooms were unlocked. I left a note on the day shift to-do list to read them the riot act,” he said.

“When the camera cycled back, the fight was nearly over. I paged emergency, sent help, and then called the police and medics,” he said.

Chapter 200

Tuesday raced by like a horse on steroids. I offered the director job to Kelly with a probationary period. The extra ten thousand a year would be the tipping point in getting the house they wanted.

Courtney made the announcement at the site and put him in charge as we had discussed. She also informed the group that the North six were leaving on Thursday and she and her group the first of the week.

I left KCC after lunch. Lorrie and Roseanne were scheduled back at two and we were all going to Easton to watch the arrival of the Bombardier 200 and inspect it. A corporate check for the six month lease was already made out.

Our two chief pilots each had pilot-in-command time on the 200 and our 2 mechanics both had certifications that covered most of the 200, the six of us along with Jeanna and both of Lorrie’s administrators were all going.

Not one but two Bombardier 200’s did a low pass fly by. Then they did a touch and go with barely 500 yards between them before they finally landed. If the town did not know big jets were landing they did when they finished.

They did this on the 5500 foot 22/4 runway. The delivery pilots had done their research well because there were all kinds of noise abatement approaches at this airport.

Even though this was a small county airport, it had a partially manned control tower. The tower was built during the Bush administration. VP Dick Chaney and several more VIP’s had summer houses at St Michaels and flew in regularly. Dick was well known for his goose hunting parties with international VIP’S using the local hunting guides.

The Bombardier’s made their way on the taxi way, past the long row of private and business hangers, coming to a stop in front of the terminal building side by side. The terminal had a jockey that directed parking planes in front of the terminal. As soon as the planes stopped moving his job was to place a pair of wheel chocks at the nose gear.

It was then that I noticed the Channel 14 news chopper sitting off to the side of the terminal. The pilot and news reporter who had been eating at the airport café were now outside filming the growing crowd. A lot of the mechanics in those private hangers had watched the events and made their way for a closer look.

We were standing on the tarmac looking at the planes as the pilots, co-pilots and the Bombardier sales rep walked up to us asking for Lorrie Smithfield of JBG. After the normal round of introductions we walked to the planes to look them over. The first thing that I noticed was that both planes had the gold and black circled JBG logo on the vertical tail section.

Both planes had been flown from fresh refitting at the Bombardier factory. The exteriors were polished and waxed. Both were fitted out in the 50 passenger mode but in a different style. The interiors were completely new and they had the new smell. I noticed the tail had the setup for two stewardesses.

The pilots, co-pilots and the sales man had each taken one of us and did a walk through describing all the features. They had done the same thing when we walked around looking at the exterior.

Jack Rush – our chief pilot – motioned me from the group and we made our way to the cockpit. When he was the pilot on some of our flights he often let me sit in the co-pilot seat on the G5 and the King Air.

I think it was the instructor in him that did it but he would walk me through all the planes gauges and instruments, explaining what was normal and how they reacted to control input.  He even let me have the controls sometimes on long flights.

Today he did the same thing explaining the controls. The cockpit of the 200 was larger and more complex. Many of the instruments and gauges did the same thing but there were many more, and the avionics were more technical. By the time Jack was finished the group was ready for a demo flight.

I took my place in a passenger seat with the others as the pilots took us for a flight. It was a nice flight. Lorrie and our pilots were enthused. The sales man explained why they brought 2 planes. The passenger layout was different and they were going to leave both planes with us for thirty days to try out and would only bill us for the one plane. At the end of 30 days they would pick up one we did not want.

The sales group supervised the refueling by Easton Air Fuel Services to make sure they knew how to do it properly. Then one of our pilots flew the sales group back to Omaha to the factory in one of our other planes, after 20 minutes of signing contracts.

The Channel 14 news and camera persons were on the tarmac as we disembarked the plane and did another walk around and asked for a statement as we were leaving.  The accident report had been made public this morning.

“The report speaks for itself as far as it goes. It does not explain why and we will never know why Jeff took the path that he did. The report does little to relieve the pain and sorrow felt by the Justice family,” I said.

The reporter then asked if we were moving our flight operations to Easton. “No, just expanding and these planes were too large for the Island airport in its current configuration. It’s a shame because Island Airport is so convenient to our operations and these planes will add 10 more full time jobs”

Lorrie had put several contract flights on the schedule for them that could also have been filled by multiple G5s if we had rejected the 200’s.

One of them was tomorrow. It was to a manufacturer’s convention in Atlanta. Several groups from the industrial park were going. It would have taken all three G5s in full passenger configuration and 3 pilots, 3 copilots and 3 stewardesses.

Now, one pilot, one copilot and 2 stewardesses were going to handle the flight. Lorrie was going to change the flight designations and notify the people on our way home.  Jack Rush and Toby Nash were pilot and copilot, Andrea Bush and Lea Tippins were the stewardesses. The snacks and airplane food were already boxed and waiting in the office.

We were home at 7 and enjoying Lorrie and Marcy’s excitement about the condition of the 200s.

At seven thirty all of our cell phones rang an alarm tone at the same time. Something was terribly wrong somewhere. Before it could have only been at the gym, now it could be anywhere.

It was Kelly Pepper, “There has been an incident, Courtney is with Janice Koons in an ambulance and they are on the way to the hospital. Glenda and Erica are being checked out and may have to go too, and then the police want to interrogate them.”

I turned to Lorrie and said, “Find a plane and a pilot to Rochester.”

Then I asked, “What happened?”

Chapter 199

While Marcy and Roseanne were still in Warrington, they participated in the video meeting from the new MAAR rental site. They had everything completely set up; the only thing lacking was employees. Three of the four were starting tomorrow. The 10 cars had been delivered today.

Jack and another person were coming from Charlotte to do the training and bring the staffing to full level tomorrow morning. The cleanup guy was going to start next Monday. Lorrie and Roseanne were coming home by noon tomorrow.

Courtney keyed the video chat and popped up on the video screen.

After a round of hello’s I started with the questions.

“Have you picked a candidate for director?” I asked.

“Yes, I think Kelly Pepper is our guy,” she replied.

“He is part of one of the couples that had indicated that they were going to move there,” I replied.

“Yes, they have been house hunting and have found one that suits them. They went today to fill out the paper work,” Courtney replied.

“When is he scheduled to work next?” I asked.

“Day shift tomorrow,” she replied.

“Have Kelly in the office at 10. I will call and make the offer. There is a change in the benefits I need to put out there for him since he and his wife are both working for us. Go ahead and put him in charge after I make the offer. Just be an observer unless you feel his judgment needs adjusting.”

“The North six are coming home Thursday morning in the unmarked cars. One unmarked car is going to stay; it will be assigned to Kelly until a Suburban comes in. You and your people can go back to Frost Borough on Monday or Tuesday next week, at your discretion. That will give you a chance to see how he manages with less people there and make sure he has a handle on scheduling,” I said.

“To keep you updated, the first round of Warrington jobs will be offered tomorrow – pending the results of today’s drug testing. The North six will be driving down Sunday with a couple of administrators, a clerk and possible an executive. They are going to set up the office. Some of the staff will be starting on Monday. The following Monday all will be on board and fly up here for group training. Sly is going to be the acting site director,” I said. “Do you think she can handle it?”

“Sly can handle it with no problem. You do know that when they are in N.C., with Jamie’s certification and the Federal permit that they can carry. You may want to do a quick refresher,” Courtney replied.

“I will keep that in mind,” I replied and then I signed off.

We had nearly finished our meeting when Eric Roberson from DHS was standing at the door to the meeting room. “When you finish up I need a few minutes with you,” he said.

Eric was in my office at the small table with a big mug of coffee when I went in. He handed me a folder. “This is the police report that will be released to the public tomorrow about the accident. Looks like a kid with a hot head and a short fuse. He had a lot of problems at school that Dad bailed him out of,” he said.

Then he continued, “The airport thing keeps growing. The phone number used to cancel the fuel deliveries was not from this area, it was a burn phone and used to make the same kind of call to several other fuel suppliers in two other states.”

“JBG is the biggest customer and could have been hurt the worst. You need to be extra vigilant. Homeland has to check every possible angle. We need a complete list of all your pilots and anyone else that has flight duties or access your planes,” Eric said.

“Ty and Kathryn had an excellent trip to Rochester; it was very productive. We would like to put four agents in with your people. There are a lot of things going on up there I can’t tell you about, but I am sure you have an idea,” he said. “They wanted me to thank you for the turn of the century accommodations,” as he was laughing.

“When you put you next group together we will have four cover folders ready for our people,” Eric said as he finished his coffee, stood and left.

The State police folder had a simple label ‘Jeff Justice investigation report’.

I opened the folder and started reading. I read the statement that I had given the officer at the scene. Then I started reading the eye witness statements. State Police detective John Harding, who had helped me get out of the truck, had a lengthy statement.

There were several more from vehicles traveling in the other direction. Then there were follow-up statements from his friends that he had spent the afternoon with. Then there were statements from Duke and his wife and their daughter.

The final pages were recommendations to and from the county prosecutor and the state’s attorney. There would ne no charges or assignment of fault.

I closed the folder and sealed it with tamper proof security tape. Each of us had our own for sensitive items, packages and the like. I wrote on the outside Jenny for your eyes only BJ and I placed it on her desk.

The girls were down in the gym working out, waiting on me to join in. I told them the investigation was over and closed. He was just a hot-head whose temper cost him his life.

My chest still looked like hell but the pain was mostly gone. I had taken only OTC pain meds the whole time. I took pride in my high pain tolerance.

We worked out for two hours. The night group was there by the time we finished. Even so we showered and sat at one of the tables in the refreshment center while winding down.

Ty and Kathryn Herman came in and pulled up chairs to sit with us for a bit. We joked about their five star accommodations at Rochester. Then they started asking a few questions about the North six.

They had seen them at times in the gym and assumed they were after-school and summer-time gym rats. They were shocked to see them at Rochester in security uniforms, well versed in what they were doing and in charge at times. Kathryn put it on the line when she said, “Don’t be surprised if an agency tries to recruit them some time in the near future.”
